Olympic Games:

Inder Singh represented India at the 1968 Mexico City Olympic Games where India won Bronze Medal

Inder Singh

Inder was a good dribbler and hard hitter. He came into prominence as a member of the Northern Railway Team in 1963, and regularly played for the Railways in the Nationals.

Toured Europe and Japan in 1966 and played in the Bangkok Asian Games in 1966.

He has also played in the Madrid Hockey Festival in 1967 and the 1967 London Pre-Olympic Tournament and has toured Japan in 1966 and Ceylon in 1967.

Inder Singh

Inder settled in Italy following the 1968 Mexico City Olympic Games. He played for the MDA Club in Rome and started coaching the Italian junior team. He played for a season in Hamburg in 1970.

Three years later Inder shifted to a small town Bra, near Torino and joined Hockey Lorenzonic Bra, one of the premier first division clubs in Italy.

The club was started by Agasto Lorenzini, manager of the Italian athletic squad in Rome Olympics.

Lorenzini was mesmerised by the Indian hockey team’s performance in 1960, and started the club to promote hockey in Italy.

Inder settled down as a player-Coach in Bra, and later, got into garments exports and married Gianna Fissore, an Italian girl who played for the women’s squad in Bra. He later became the President of the Club.

Inder’s daughter is an Italian international hockey player.

Sadly Inder passed away in Italy on 19th August 2001 aged 56 years.
