  • Bakshish made his impact in hockey in 1944 when he was selected a member of the famous Amritsar Khalsa College team.

  • He captained the College in 1946 and represented the State from 1948 to 1961; toured Afghanistan as a member of the Indian team in 1945.
  • He first played in the forward line and later switched to the deep defence.
  • He represented India against Japan in 1951 and captained Punjab in 1955. He toured with the Indian team to Malaya in 1954 and Poland in 1955.
  • He was selected to represent India in the 1958 Tokyo Asian Games.
  • He was a first class coach of the National Institute of Sports in Patiala.
  • In 1963 he joined the State Sports Department in Amritsar as a District Sports Officer.
  • He coached Women’s Government School, and later coached at Women's College in Amritsar. After this, he took over taking care of the family-run brick factory.
  • Bakshish served with Punjab Police from 1948-1961.
  • Bakshish passed away on September 21, 1970 in Amritsar at the age of 42.
