Amit Singh Bakshi
represented India at the 1956 Melbourne Olympic Games.
Amit
was a last minute choice for the Olympic team. Before the team was
due to leave Bombay for Melbourne, all players were medically examined.
Gursewak Singh was declared unfit and Amit was selected in his place.

Bakshi studied at Govt College Ludhiana and later served Air Force.
A sound and effective half back for the Services team.
Amit's
younger brother Kanwalnain was also a good hockey player. Their
father was a professor and warden of the boys hostel adjacent to
the college hockey turf which used to be one of the best in the
country those days.
